At-home workouts are here to stay and here’s why!
Why teacher Sarah Micak loves Body Harmonics On Demand and you might too
I have loved virtual workouts since I can remember. They’re convenient, cost effective and are a great way to keep the body moving and feeling great. After having my daughters, I liked them even more because I was time strapped and really needed that flexibility to exercise on my time (during naps!).
When I started virtual workouts, the streaming options were bleak to say the least, but I wasn’t overly picky at the time. Fast-forward a few years and I became more conscious of how I was moving my body and how I felt after a workout. I didn’t need the burn anymore. I still wanted to exercise hard, but with age (and wisdom!) I learned the importance of a body that moves well and allows you to do the things you love with greater ease and energy is worth everything.
While it seems the advent of virtual workouts was pandemic-propelled (and sure, it helped the growth trajectory!), there were innovators in the virtual space long before lockdowns. Well before the pandemic, Body Harmonics launched its own streaming platform, Body Harmonics On Demand, and I’ve been the biggest fan ever since. This is what I had been missing in my virtual workouts—smart and intelligent Pilates & Movement, where the classes build your body functionally, striving for optimal alignment and movement.
Whether you’re a Pilates, movement or fitness enthusiast or professional, or even if you fall into the “I’m never working out from home” camp, read on for some of my tips on how you can get the most out of a Body Harmonics On Demand subscription and start falling in love with at-home Pilates & Movement.
On your location & time!
You’re in control when it comes to your exercise routine, so you get to choose when and where you workout, and the type or style of class you do. Depending on your lifestyle, having that flexibility can be a game-changer in terms of following through on that commitment to maintain and improve your health and well-being.
User-friendly & convenient
We all know life can get complex sometimes, and no one wants a complicated online platform to navigate when they’re trying to squeeze in a little “me time.” What I love about Body Harmonics On Demand is just how easy it is to use. No matter which device (computer, tablet, ROKU, Apple TV or Fire) you choose to stream from and whether you use a web browser or app, classes are easy to find and search by level, type of workout, teacher and even issue. And with more than 800 videos in its library (and many new titles being added bi-weekly), you can always find something new.
“Showing up” made simple
One of the challenges of working out at home is that we’re left to our own devices to keep ourselves motivated; there’s nothing holding us accountable to “show up for class.” If you need a little nudge to do that at-home class, the On Demand subscription service allows you to copy the URL of the class you want to do into your calendar, so when it’s time to do your class, the link is right at your fingertips in your calendar! You can also “favourite” a video to come back to and pick up where you ended off when you get called away during a workout.
No wifi, no problem!
When designing their streaming service, founder Margot McKinnon and the streaming team at Body Harmonics wanted to make sure that users had the option to move anytime, anywhere. And that includes even when wifi isn’t available. The solution – downloadable Pilates & Movement videos that remain active on your tablet or mobile device for 30 days. With a little advanced planning, you can keep up your regular movement routine and never miss a day while away on vacation or travelling for work.
Even the most seasoned Pilates & Movement professionals need a little creativity injection occasionally, and that’s where Body Harmonics On Demand really shines. With countless hours of functional movement videos, the streaming service is like an essential piece in your toolbox. In fact it’s almost like a toolbox full of great tools that help you discover new teaching skills and movement ideas to use in classes or privates.
Homework tool for private clients
Giving private clients exercises to do at home in between sessions is a great way to continue working towards goals while you’re not seeing them. I love using these five-minute and short Mondays With Margot videos to help my clients do exercises at home. They can hear proper cueing, ensure form is correct and are more likely to do the exercises following along with a video. Covering a wide variety of themes, whether you need to help a client build hip strength, or get that arm bone in the shoulder socket, there’s a short video in the library for you.
For the business owner
Bulk subscriptions can be an easy way to keep everyone in your company moving and feeling great, whether they’re working from home or in-office. Ditto for retirement communities looking to help residents stay active in their aging. The flexibility and personalization for users means there’s something for everyone.
At the end of the day, we know that movement is good for everyone, no matter your age or ability. With so much flexibility, ease of use and choice at your fingertips, it’s hard to deny that a streaming service like Body Harmonics On Demand is worth a try. Sure, exercising at home might not be your number one choice, but I say give it a try, and experience the benefits of unlimited convenience. Plus, there’s nothing to say you can’t do a hybrid of in-person, online and on demand. I have a feeling you’ll never look back!
